- BS Computer Science major at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
and encouragement from Professors Landweber and Goodman
- Eleven (11) years working in IBM's software division.
At IBM, I saw it all - from a failed 300 person (
multi year ) project, a product team that grew from
4 to 60, to small and agile (single and multi site
) projects ( AnyNet, Wireless Web Express ). During
my years at IBM, I played many roles including developer,
designer, tester, development manager, product planning
manager, market analysis and planning. Having direct
experience with these multiple roles enables me to
see a problem / situation from many viewpoints. I
was happiest playing the role of the developer as
I am a "geek" at heart and constantly learning
/ re-inventing myself.
- Sought and received an MBA from Duke University's
Fuqua School of Business in 1993, providing a solid
foundation in business analysis, strategy, marketing,
organization behavior, and statistical techniques.
My "sweet spot" is marrying the worlds of
Technology and Business. Those who know me well say
that I am a technology visionary. Graduated with Fuqua
Scholar honors
- Being selected and attending IBM's 10 week full
time Object Technology University program in 1995
( C++, Java, Smalltalk, OO modeling, UseCases, Stories,
translating requirements ==> object model ==>
code ).
- Four (4) years at an Internet startup where I was
Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. We produced
a series of one to one marketing products including
a personalization server that was a finalist for "Best
Intenet Debut" by the Software Publishers Association
awards in 2000. My company was purchased by Remedy
Software in January 2000. The startup environment
was dynamic and invigorating and we got to practice
Agile development before the term was coined.
- Four (4) years of consulting with Sun Microsystems,
focusing on Software Architecture and Java Development.
At Sun, in addition to playing a "HandsOnArchitect"
role on many customer projects, I have:
- contributed to the definition and content of
the SunTone Architecture Methodology (SunTone
AM).
- filed the "System and Method for Software
Methodology Selection" patent
- Authored patterns on Methodology, Methodology
Selection, Team Composition, Management, and Architecture
- An interest in neurology including the symptoms
and treatment of those with ADD/ADHD, and brain composition
patterns that drive / determine a person's behavior
and competencies
- Presented nine (9) sessions at JavaOne, including
two "Expert Panel on Agile Java Development"
sessions co-presenting with Martin Fowler, Scott Ambler,
Dave Thomas, Alan Shalloway, Daniel Steinberg, Dan
Rawsthorne, and Joshua Bloch. Other topics include
Swing, J2EE, Architecture Centric Iterative Methodology,
and a reference architecture for self service interactive
